Green Mountain Hike-In/Bike-In/Ride-In

Directions from Tacoma or Seattle:

(directions for most hikers)

  • From Tacoma, cross the Tacoma Narrows Bridge on Highway 16 heading toward Bremerton (northwest). There is no bridge toll going in this direction.
  • About 1.5 miles north of the town of Gorst, exit onto Highway 3 going west.
  • Drive 5-6 miles to the town of Silverdale, and take the exit off of Hwy 3 to Newberry Road. Turn left.
  • Continue 1.25 miles where Newberry Road ends at the Seabeck Hwy.
  • Turn left onto the Seabeck Hwy and continue 2 miles to Holly Road.
  • Turn right onto Holly Road and drive 2.2 miles to Tahuya Lake Road.
  • Turn left and drive 1 mile to Green Mountain Road and the DNR parking lot/trailhead. Hike 4 miles to the campground #note that the gate to this road is often open on summer weekends, allowing access to horse trailers and other vehicles#

(directions for most bicylers)

  • Bicyclers often bicycle the entire way from Colman Dock in Seattle. Take the Seattle-Bremerton ferry (about a one-hour cruise).
  • Exit the Bremerton Ferry Dock, and ride two blocks north to 11th Ave.
  • Turn right on 11th Ave., which soon connects to Kitsap Way.
  • Follow Kitsap Ave., then take a left turn on National Ave., then right onto Werner Road. This will take you under Hwy 3.
  • Once under Hwy 3, take a quick right onto Harlow Drive. You will soon veer to the right onto the Chico Highway. This will take you all the way to Newberry Road, where you can then follow the instructions above.
  • Of note, Seattle bicyclers consider this trip to Green Mountain an easy one-day ride in each direction.

Note that Green Mountain Hike-In/Bike-In/Ride-In Campground is also called #Green Mtn Horse Camp". A map of the Green Mountain State Forest will help most people.
